Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1294:
Description
A beautiful example of an early 20th-century countertop display case, likely used in a general store or pharmacy to showcase smaller, high-value goods. The piece features rich, dark-stained wood framing, possibly oak or mahogany, typical of the late Victorian or early American industrial eras. The glass is intact on all four sides, allowing for maximum visibility. The hinged door, secured with a small metal hinge and featuring a simple white porcelain or wooden knob, opens for access. Critically, the front glass panel is reverse-painted or stenciled with “WM. PARKER & SONS,” “ESTABLISHED 1868,” and the locations “BOSTON & CHICAGO,” indicating the manufacturer or the company whose products were displayed. The condition is very good for its age, showing minor wear consistent with use, such as a few small scratches on the wood frame and what appear to be two small drill holes on the center vertical post on the right side. It is noted that the metal fasteners, including screws on the top and hinges, are modern Phillips head replacements, which indicates the piece has undergone repair or restoration, as the original screws would have been slotted. The remaining original structure is firm, and the glass is intact. Dimensions: H 23″, W 9.5″, D 9.5”. Top is 11”x11”, H 21”.
