Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1264:
Description
This is a beautiful example of an early 20th Century or Victorian/Arts and Crafts era leaded stained glass window panel, featuring a highly desirable stylized floral and foliate motif . The design is symmetrical, centered around vertical and horizontal structural divisions, showcasing clustered, dark blossoms and long trailing green leaves against a variegated opalescent background glass in shades of amber, cream, and brown. This color palette and use of opalescent glass is often associated with the American stained glass tradition, popularized by makers like Tiffany Studios and the Arts and Crafts movement. The glass pieces are held together by lead, framed within a period wooden sash or frame, likely oak or a similar hardwood, with a warm finish. The overall condition appears good for its age, but a few key issues are visible: the wooden frame shows wear, paint residue, and minor damage on the edges. Crucially, the lead came shows oxidation and some soil/dirt accumulation in the grooves, and there is a visible separation or slight bowing/cracking in one of the lead lines near the center-top of the panel, suggesting the need for re-caming or stabilization work, which is common for antique panels of this construction. The glass itself appears largely intact, though micro-fractures in the opalescent glass are difficult to rule out without closer inspection. The overall aesthetic remains high, making it a compelling architectural salvage piece. H 53″, W 24″, D 1.25″.
