Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1255:
Description
This is an outstanding, confirmed piece from one of the masters of the American Arts and Crafts movement: Charles P. Limbert Furniture Co. of Grand Rapids and Holland, Michigan (circa 1905–1918). The bookcase is executed in rich, dark-stained quartersawn oak, prized for its deep, highly figured grain known as tiger stripe. The triple-door configuration, a desirable form that balances length with a relatively low profile, showcases the clean, honest lines and broad surfaces characteristic of Limbert’s work. It is authentically marked with the Limbert branded stamp found on the back and top, confirming its provenance as one of the company’s high-quality, non-sectional library cases (often cataloged as Model 359 or similar broad triple-door forms). The three glass-front doors open traditionally and retain their original simple brass ring pulls and functional latches. The lot includes ten removable oak shelves and a container of shelf pegs, offering exceptional storage capacity. Condition is antique-excellent, displaying a deep, aged patina. Visible imperfections include minor surface wear, a few light scratches on the glass, and some typical age-related fading of the original finish. The brass latch on the rightmost door requires repair or re-securing, a minor issue common with hardware of this age. The overall structure is otherwise robust and ready for immediate placement in a collection. H 50″, W 56″, D 14″ Note: Pickup/Transport required. Contacts available post auction.
