Description
This is a Klamath Porridge basket likely from the late 19th or early 20th century. It showcases traditional weaving techniques and design. The basket features a cylindrical shape slightly tapering at the top exhibits some damage to the rim. It is constructed using a tight twining method common among Klamath basketry, with natural materials such as tule, willow, cedar bark and bear grass. The baskets design incorporates a repeating geometric pattern of dark black dyed chevrons or zigzags against a lighter natural colored background, which is a classic motif in Klamath basket weaving.
