Example of early 20th century craftsmanship this Mission Indian coiled basket circa 1930 hails from the indigenous peoples of Southern California. It presents a shallow, gracefully flared form, expertly woven from natural fibers. Its surface showcases a rich palette of earthy browns and tans revealing subtle variations in hue that emphasize the concentric spirals radiating from its tightly coiled center. The meticulous construction and elegant simplicity of its design speak to its authenticity and cultural significance within the rich basketry traditions of the region. Condition-there is minimal loss to the weave mostly on the rim. Dimensions: 15” diameter, 3.75” tall, base diameter approximately 7”. See photos.
