Description

Beaded basket dating from the 1940s, features intricate bead work over a coiled willow or grass base. The exterior is completely covered in small glass seed beads, primarily white, with geometric designs in dark blue and red. These designs include diagonal lines and cross like shapes, showcasing the craftsmanship and artistry of the Paiute people. The interior of the basket reveals the coiled construction, often made from a single reed. Beaded baskets were significant cultural items used both for practical purposes and trade. This particular basket looks to have an old museum accession number on the inside wall visible in white with black numbering. It is in fair to good condition with some loss of beads on the exterior. The color scheme and detailed beadwork make this basket of visually stunning and historically significant piece, typical of Paiute craftsmanship from the mid-20th century. Dimensions: 5.25” overall width x 3.25” height. Rim opening 4” and flat bottom base approximately 2.5”. Please see photos.
