Description
Unadorned Chitimacha basket, a traditional craft of the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana circa 1940’s. Known for their intricate designs and use of natural materials, primarily river cane, this example has a woven pattern with subtle color differences in its vertical design. Two carrying handles make this a utilitarian design. Dimensions: 14” long x 7.5” wide x 8.5” tall. 12” tall with handles extended. This simple basket is a wonderful example of what was crafted by an ever disappearing indigenous peoples of Louisiana. Please see photos.
