Description

This is a stunning example of a Southwestern Pueblo-style weaving, likely a vintage piece, exhibiting a bold, centralized cross-and-box motif that is characteristic of the region’s textile tradition, possibly from a Navajo weaver or one of the nearby Pueblo groups. The geometric design utilizes a striking palette of natural earth tones, including gray, tan, black, and white, dramatically contrasted with a vibrant pink-red and a burnt orange border. The stark zigzag and stepped patterns are executed with skill, showcasing the traditional hand-spun wool materials and weaving technique. The textile features a fringed edge along the top and bottom (as oriented in the image) and a sawtooth-style border. The overall condition appears to be good vintage condition, showing some expected minor edge wear, particularly to the corners and fringes, and some light fading consistent with age, but no apparent major tears or staining is visible from the photographs. Measures 66″ x 53″. From the Native American display in Donley’s Wild West Town.
