The basket design is a geometric pattern possibly a variation of the “dau” or “spirit door”- a significant design element in Pomo basketry representing a place for ancestors to enter and teach the weaver. The pattern is created by alternating light and dark elements, showcasing the weaver’s skill and manipulating materials and colors. This is a stunning piece when you really focus in on the details.
