Description
1789 George Washington “Laurel Wreath with Star” (Almost Uncirculated) copper Inaugural Button. Inscribed “Long Live The President” ( a stab at “Long Live the King”) encircling a wreath. Albert WI-17a, WHB-15, Cobb-14, 20 mm. Presents extremely well featuring pleasing evenly toned naturally rich brown patina. Button retains original shank along with sharp detail with minor wear, hard to come by with only a handful of known examples known to exist (2005 J. Harold Cobb’s catalog of Washington Inaugural buttons states there are only (3) examples in known existence). This example is in AU collector grade condition and is aesthetically pleasing. A must have for any true collector; Just ask Nicolas Cage from his movie “National Treasure” in which he is searching for a similar variation of this button. Nicholas Cage used a prop; today you can be one of the handful of people who own the real deal.
