Description
US Navy Commander John Rodgers Agassiz 18 jewel chronograph pocket watch. Rodgers was an accomplished pilot who attempted the first non stop flight from California to Hawaii; this is the exact watch Rogers carried during this flight. This is etched on the watches dust cover. The trip consumed more than expected fuel and was forced to make a ocean landing. Rodgers and Crew sailed on the the floorboard with fabric sails for 450 miles until they were found by a submarine after a week with minimal food and water. Rodgers served as assistant chief of the Bureau of Aeronautics until his death in an accidental airplane crash he was involved in on Aug, 27th, 1926 in the Delaware River. Six ships were names in Rodgers honor of Rodgers, his grand father and great grandfather.
