October Fall Classic
Lot 2258a:
Description
This is a fantastic piece of architectural salvage—an original late 19th or early 20th-century saloon or bar swinging door featuring a beautiful etched and frosted glass panel. The panel boldly spells out “BAR” in a classic typeface, surrounded by elegant foliate and scrollwork etched designs, typical of the Victorian or early American commercial style. The main frame appears to be pine or a similar softwood with a distressed, clear-coated, or varnished finish suggesting a long service life. The bottom edge is protected by a period, heavy-gauge brass or bronze corner bracket, fastened with rivets or flat-head nails, an excellent sign of originality and heavy use. The glass panel appears to be in good condition with the etching intact, though there is a spalling present in the central frosted portion. The wood frame shows significant honest wear, including scratches, dings, mortise/hinge cutouts, and some small chips, all consistent with a working antique door, giving it superb patina. The door is substantial, suggesting a weight well over 100 lbs. Dimensions: 78.5” tall x 21” wide x 1.75” thick. Glass measures 37” tall x 14.75” wide. See photos. NOTE: Pickup/transport required. Contacts available post auction.
