October Fall Classic
Lot 2250a:
Description
This is a wonderfully dramatic, architectural mirror, likely dating to the late 19th-century Neoclassical revival period. It makes a grand statement with its strong classical form, featuring column-like pilasters topped with Corinthian capitals, a heavy cornice, and fine decorative molding. The contrast between the giltwood and the ebonized sections with their delicate stenciled flourishes is particularly striking. The frame shows wear consistent with its age, including rubbing and small chips to the gilt and painted surfaces. The original mirror plate has significant, and in our opinion, beautiful de silvering and spotting that gives it an authentic, time-worn character. Measures 38″ tall, 24.5″ wide, 3.25″ deep.
