Description
A large and impressive single-sided porcelain sign that was once a fixture at a mid-century service station. This is a fantastic piece of petroliana history, featuring the iconic red Pegasus logo for Socony-Vacuum and bold “Mobil Certified Lubrication” graphics. The name Socony-Vacuum Oil Company was in use from the merger in 1931 until company was renamed Socony Mobil Oil Company in 1955, The sign is in well-weathered, showing numerous porcelain chips, particularly around the mounting holes and edges, with associated rust and staining. The field has some fading and loss of gloss but the graphics remain strong and clear. It has been mounted in a later wooden frame for display. Measures 108″ long, 36″ tall.
