October Fall Classic
Lot 2192:
Description
This is not a barn find or just a survivor. Over the past 66 years only two families have owned this beauty and both families have sincerely taken wonderful care of this automobile. They kept it out of the elements whenever possible. They kept the majority of records and part numbers on the replaced parts. Joined the Thunderbird clubs and ordered magazines to stay in touch with other owners on possible problems and best ways to repair. Manuals, magazines, receipts, and original sticker showing the additional options and costs. All of this is included plus boxes of extra parts in the truck. Thousands have been spent to keep the car in running condition and looking good. Lets start with the interior: Open the door and its SHOCKIN! Not a mint show car but very, very nice!! The steering wheel catches your eyes first, just beautiful along with the leather cover. Very good carpet with Thunderbird mats. Head liner and visors in very good condition. Both aluminum door sill plates are in good condition which, as most know, usually have some corrosion. The seats both front buckets and back are in very good condition with a very small amount of wear on the outer edge of the driver seat, but have to look close. All dash hardware, bezels, chrome gauges appear to be in good condition. The center console is equipped with chrome bezel Stewart Warner gauges that were purchased and installed in 1969, original paperwork is included. The owner was meticulous on up-keep of the motor so over the years he added extra gauges in the center council. The speedometer shows 63,365.70. Not guaranteed, but the way the vehicles looks, you would guess the low number would be correct. The only problem that is noticeable with the interior is the vehicle’s dash top cover. The cover didn’t crack but the foam inside has deteriorated. The owner did get a new one along with instructions but never got it done. The original radio still occupies its home. Both doors open and shut very well with no hanging or dragging, along with very nice interior door panels. The critical lower areas of the door bottoms, hood and trunk edges, are very good. All the exterior chrome and trim are also in very good condition and looks to be complete. The exterior body of the car is straight with just a few small dents, notice the two on the upper top left door by mirror and one on right center of the door panel, quarter to half dollar size. The exterior of the car has at one time been painted to brighten the exterior. The lower fenders, rockers and quarters have no noticeable repairs. Tires all look good with good thread including a spare but NO GUARANTEE. All the glass looks good. Nice clean trunk which looks to have original matting, also very clean. Original finish engine compartment. Radiator looks newer along with most of the smaller parts such as hoses, clamps, relays, wiring, 12 volt battery, etc. The underside shows the normal surface rust of a car around 20 years old. Still can see some of the original coating along with a new fuel tank. The engine is reported to be a Ford 352 V8 with automatic transmission. The car drives and runs good. The automatic transmission just had a new pan gasket installed but still has a leak. Overall a very nice vehicle that is a dependable runner. A wonderful car to be proud of and take to the many Car Shows! Enjoy!
