Description
Circa 1880 Swiss cylinder music box desk features a ratchet wound spring driven mechanism powering an 8 tune 15.75″ cylinder which plays tunes on a 112 note 8 octave steel comb. The comb is in perfect condition having no broken or chipped teeth. The box comes with ten 8 tune interchangeable cylinders which can be set to play each tune or repeat a favorite. The inlaid cabinet has both birdseye and cross grain wood veneer with ebonized wood edging on cabriole legs. The front has a pull out drop front desk top that has a leather insert writing surface and 3 small supply drawers. Below the desk is a pull out fitted drawer storing 3 cylinders for the music box. A smaller 2 drawer cabinet has 2 drawers that store up to 8 more cylinders. The original finish cabinet is in overall good condition with light aligatoring, some small missing pieces of veneer that have been touched up, and a missing 3″ piece of molding between the music box and the desk on the left hand side.
