Lot 1308:
Description
Fantastic railroadiana example of a vintage Oxweld Railroad Acetylene Lamp, model No. 2155, with a visible patent number 1,606,505, putting its design squarely in the late 1920s or 1930s. The Oxweld Acetylene Company, associated with the Linde Air Products Company, produced these powerful carbide lamps for railroad yardmasters and car inspectors long after miners had moved on to electric headlamps. Its construction is primarily galvanized steel or tinned metal for the body and reflector, featuring brass for the carbide chamber cap and control valve components, and a wooden grip on the bail handle. The lamp is complete with its original bullseye glass lens and reflector. The overall physical condition is clean, displaying a desirable antique patina with surface wear and oxidation consistent with a working lamp, but appearing free of heavy grime or environmental soil. There are no major dents or structural breaks visible, the wooden handle grip is worn but intact, and all components appear to be present. Visible markings include the stamped Oxweld nameplate and a number “64162” on the bail strap, likely a serial or inventory number. H 10″, W 6″, D 8″.
