Description
Monumental Bronze Girl Sculpture This is a beautiful bronze garden sculpture in the Realist style, depicting a barefoot girl in a simple apron dress and headscarf, looking down and clutching a broken jug or canteen. While the specific artist is not immediately apparent, the style is reminiscent of early 20th-century figurative works, though this is a contemporary cast intended for the exterior market. The figure is solidly modeled, standing on an integral bronze base which is itself mounted on a substantial polished black stone plinth. The detail on the girl’s face, hands, and the engraved floral pattern on her kerchief is well-executed. The piece is finished with a handsome, multi-hued patina, featuring a rich brown base with significant verdigris oxidation on the dress, headscarf, and jug, which lends it a wonderful aged, weathered appearance suitable for a classic garden or water feature setting. The bronze work is in good overall condition, showing the intentional, attractive patination and expected minor surface wear consistent with being displayed outdoors. A notable imperfection is a clear crack or fissure visible on the upper left side of the back/shoulder area of the figure and another fracture on the right shoulder/neck area. The jug the girl is holding also has a roughly square-shaped hole on its side. The black marble base shows some minor scuffs and chips on the edges. H 42″, W 15″, D 12″ (Base is 12″ x 12″).
