Description
This is a lovely example of a contemporary bronze garden statue, depicting a young girl in a simple dress, standing barefoot on an oval, textured base. Her pose is particularly evocative, suggesting a moment of play or wonder, with one hand raised as if waving or shielding her eyes and the other clenched loosely at her side. The casting technique appears to be the lost-wax method, offering beautiful detail in her facial expression, her bobbed hair, and the folds of her clothing, which places this firmly in the tradition of fine outdoor figurative sculpture. The metal has developed a rich, dark brown-to-black patina over most of the surface, with a significant amount of verdigris—the desirable blue-green oxidation—visible on the base, indicating exposure to the elements and suggesting a considerable age, likely mid-20th century or later garden art. This item presents in good vintage condition consistent with outdoor use, showing a heavy, natural patina and verdigris.
