Description

This is a stately piece of decorative brassware, likely mid-20th century, executed in a handsome Classical or Patriotic style, perfect for a mantelpiece or as an architectural element. The design features a finely cast American Bald Eagle with wings fully spread, perched atop an ornately detailed world globe. The globe itself rests on a simple, tiered pedestal base, which appears to be designed to function as a finial or decorative cap, possibly for a large pole, although it functions well as a standalone sculpture. The material is heavy, cast brass, giving it a substantial weight and rich golden patina that has deepened with age. It is a striking piece that captures the powerful, sweeping symbolism of the eagle. The piece is in good overall antique condition, with the heavy brass showing expected signs of age, including significant tarnish, light verdigris, and areas of finish loss that reveal a darker metal beneath, especially in the recesses. There is visible separation and possible repair/fill at the junction where the eagle’s wings meet the body (visible in the close-up images), as well as some minor assembly gaps where the pedestal meets the globe. There are no obvious dents or cracks to the main components. H 26″, W 19″, D 10″. See photos.
