Description

French Industrial Windmill Automated Clock
Attributed to Guilmet, circa 1885. Bronze case on a marble base in the form of a windmill displaying the time on a silvered dial with additional displays of barometric pressure and multi-temperature reading thermometers. The glass from the Celsius thermometer is missing. The glass from the Fahrenheit thermometer is broken. It is also missing the top brass finial and the brass windmill vanes. The clock movement goes eight days with a platform escapement timepiece movement. The clock winds and runs with provided non original key. The missing vanes of the windmill would turn continuously for several hours quite engagingly. They are powered by a separate automation movement located within the base, which is wound through the small door in the front. The mechanism winds and runs but no key is provided. The bronze case itself is in VG original condition. Comparative clock found at Mystery, Novelty and Fantasy Clocks, Schiffer, 1999, pgs. 265 and 268. Measures 16″ tall.
