October Fall Classic
Lot 1217f:
Description
This is a fantastic piece of early to mid-20th-century American sporting memorabilia, specifically a heavy-gauge metal sign possesses a durable, baked-on paint finish, offering a different style of industrial quality built to withstand the elements of a Wisconsin shooting preserve. It clearly identifies the property as a “Wisconsin Licensed Shooting Preserve” and includes the legal reference, “SEC. 29.573,” alongside the bold warning, “NO TRESPASSING.” The embossing gives the sign a desirable three-dimensional look and the vibrant yellow and black color scheme would have been highly visible in the field. The sign shows expected heavy wear consistent with years of outdoor exposure: significant paint loss, especially around the edges and mounting holes, with surface rust and pitting visible where the paint has failed and the metal substrate is exposed. The color is faded and chipped across the face, and the reverse shows corresponding wear. Both the front and reverse show impacts, likely from gunshots, a common and often desirable characteristic in signs of this nature. The original mounting holes are present in all four corners, with two additional holes (likely from impacts) in the center field. H 12.5″, W 18″, D 0.125″ See photos.
