October Fall Classic
Lot 1177:
Description
A fantastic lot for the collector of early medical devices, featuring two beautiful electrotherapy machines from the golden age of quack medicine. The first is a “Voltamp Battery No 10 ‘Crown'” in its oak case, complete with its instruction label from Montgomery Ward & Co. of Chicago. The second is a larger, more elaborate model with a storage drawer containing a wonderful assortment of electrode attachments, including a hair brush (disintegrating), metal cylinders, and discs. Both units are housed in handsome, finger-jointed oak cases with nickel-plated hardware, representing the high quality of scientific apparatus from the era. These devices were sold as cure-alls for everything from nervousness to rheumatism and are wonderful historical artifacts. Both units are in excellent cosmetic condition for their age and appear remarkably complete, with the hair brush being the exception, The plastic holding the needles has broken down and the brush has deteriorated further than pictured here. Sold as non-functional collectibles for display only. Larger Case: 11″ x 8″ x 9″. Smaller case 8”x8”x6”.
