October Fall Classic
Lot 1128d:
Description
This is a great pairing of two distinctively stylish breweriana signs, perfect for any bar or collector’s den. The lot includes an older, horizontal, double-sided metal sign for Cook’s Goldblume Beer from the F.W. Cook Company Inc., Evansville, Indiana. This piece is a classic tin sign, marked with "C-40" and the "Consolite" name, which places it squarely in the desirable post-Prohibition to mid-century (circa 1940s-1950s) era. Its bold declaration, "THE BEST BEER ON EARTH," combined with the vibrant red and yellow color scheme, makes it a quintessential piece of regional American beer advertising. The second item is a more contemporary, vertical, embossed aluminum sign for Stella Artois, "La Bière Fine de Luxe," featuring the iconic red background and white hunting horn ("cor de chasse") logo, manufactured in 2004. Both signs are constructed of metal (tin/aluminum). The vintage Cook’s sign is in remarkably good condition for its age, displaying very bright graphics with good color and gloss, showing only minor edge wear, a few light surface scratches, and a slight bend at the lower right corner. The modern Stella Artois sign is also in excellent condition with a high-gloss finish, though it has some minimal scuffing visible on the black edges. H 28.5", W 28", D <0.5"
