October Fall Classic
Lot 1112:
Description
Two distinct, desirable Pepsi-Cola bottle carriers from the mid-century era, likely 1940s-1950s. The first is a classic wooden six-pack carrier featuring the bold, script logo and the memorable slogan “BIGGER BETTER” in red and black paint on the end panels, a mark of the era when Pepsi tried to one-up its main competitor. The divider panels inside are stamped “YOUR PERSONAL CARTON,” suggesting it was sold as a non-refundable, permanent purchase. It features wood and metal reinforcement strips, a center wooden handle, and a blue painted wooden grip. It also has two small metal hooks hanging from the center beam, whose purpose may have been for hanging a small sign or price tag. The second is an older-style galvanized metal “basket” carrier with an arched, hinged metal handle. It is stamped and painted with the earlier “DRINK PEPSI-COLA” script logo. Both carriers are in good, vintage condition. The wooden carrier shows nice patina to the wood grain, minor scuffs, and some expected paint wear on the logo, but the structure is sound. The metal carrier shows heavier signs of age, including significant paint loss, scuffs, and extensive rust/patina to the galvanized metal, but the handle mechanism and overall form are intact. H 9.5″, W 8.5″, D 6″ (Wooden) / H 10″, W 8.25″, D 5.5″ (Metal). See photos.
