1943 Swedish 1m Stereo Rangefinder m/43
This is a precision-engineered 1-meter base stereoscopic range finder, model m/43, manufactured in 1943 during the height of WWII. The "fwq" maker code identifies the manufacturer as Saalfelder Apparatebau (Saalfelder Optische Werke), a high-tier German optical firm. While the hardware is German-made, the identifying plates and instructional text are in Swedish, confirming this was part of a specific contract for the Swedish military. This 6x magnification instrument was vital for accurate distance measurement in artillery and anti-aircraft roles. The set is exceptionally complete, featuring the original olive drab transport chest with specialized wooden blocking, the calibration "Berichtigungslatte" (adjustment lath) labeled by Ernst Leitz Wetzlar, and the primary optics housing. The instrument retains its original cream and grey textured finish with a prominent red identification stripe. Its condition is remarkably high, showing authentic field wear including minor paint chips, light surface oxidation on the chest’s metal handles and latches, and some age-related cracking to the rubber face shield, though the optical lenses appear clear and free of major fogging. Plate on case cover reads: “1m a-instr m/43 (Stereo) Nr 29367. Estimated measurements are H 6", W 47", D 8".
