Description
19th/20th Century Pacific Maori weapon from New Zealand. Known as a Taiaha. Also known as a Hani or Maipi. One end is flat and rounded and the other end is carved in the form of a face and tongue. Eyes have inset abalone shell and the entire end is intricately carved with a captivating presence. Overall length 55.75”. Traditionally red feathers and long white dog hair would have adorned the carved end. A favorite weapon of Maori’s past, warriors trained till they became proficient in its use. This is a beautiful piece that captures anyone’s attention. Please see photos.
