The John Bannister Collection - D-Day and Militaria
Lot 2111:
Description
Fearsome Kanak tribe ceremonial war club from New Caledonia, in the Pacific. This is a beautiful example, with a nice honey patina on its surface. This type of weapon would have traditionally been decorated with plants, human hair, or cloths, and were wielded with one or two hands. Skillfully carved to mimic the shape of a bird’s head, this lethal club could do some damage in battle. Dimensions: 28.25” long. Measurements: 31” height, 11” width (head to tip of beak), 3.5” wide. Please see photos.
