Description

A RARE World War II Japanese Type 91 Rifle Grenade (INERT) with reproduction finned, tail assembly and an original INERT 7.7×58 wooden bullet cartridge. The Japanese Type 91 rifle grenade, produced from 1931 to 1945, was a versatile fragmentation grenade that could be fired from a rifle using a spigot-type launcher, thrown by hand, or launched from a grenade discharger like the Type 89 “Knee Mortar”. A finned tail assembly was attached for rifle launching and used a 7 to 8-second delay fuse. These grenades had a wood-bulleted launching cartridge stored in their finned tail assembly. The cartridge was fired from the rifle, and the wooden bullet was trapped by the finned tail assembly, launching and arming the grenade. This INERT grenade is complete with its original main body, screwed plug, fuze body, safety cap, firing pin, firing pin holder, and propellant body. Please see photos for overall condition. Part of the John Bannister Collection. Grenade and Tail Assembly: L 8.5”, Dia. 2.5” / Bullet: 7.7x58mm
