Great grouping of a WWII US Marine who served in the Fleet Marine Force Pacific. FMFPAC was established by General ‘Howling Mad’ Smith in 1944 to assume command of very large Marine forces in the Pacific theatre of World War II, of the order of 500,000. Since then, the forces commanded by FMFPAC have been the largest field command in the Marine Corps, representing two-thirds of its combat strength. Naperville, IL resident Ralph G. Greenberg joined the Marines in 1942. He saw combat in the Pacific. Uniform includes: 4 pocket wool coat (1943 dated) with ribbon bars for Navy Good Conduct w/3 stars, Faded ribbon w/3 stars, Silver Star Medal, Bronze Star Medal w/OLC, Purple Heart Medal w/ 2 OLC. USMC qualification badges for Rifle Sharpshooter (Sterling) ; Rifle Expert and Pistol Expert. Fleet Marine Force Officer Badge above. CPL insignia on sleeves. Fleet Marine Force Pacific shoulder sleeve patch on left. Wool trousers 1942 dated with name in waistband. Marine visor cap, Khaki shirt and necktie. Silk Japanese (27″x35″) flag acquired on Tarawa according to notes. US 48 star flag (10.5″ x7″). Japanese hat star and rank ribbons (2x three star and 1x two star). All in riker mount.
