Description
Used by the US Navy is this pair of Post WWII 3″ 50 Cal MK7 and MK9 shell casings. Both are copper alloy, with one being of later manufacture. Shell #1) Marked on base: “3 IN 50-CAL MK 7-MOD-0-N S-2-1948 D.C.M. U.S. LOT-25” Primer stamped: “MK 42-1 6 49 LOT 38M”. Stenciled on side of shell:” ASSEMBLED WITH ELECTRIC PRIMER and “FLASHLESS” #2) Marked on base: Obscured by surface oxidation, but likely “MK 9” almost visible. Primer stamped:”MK 42-2 11 53 LOT 153 M” Stenciled on side of shell: “PK-GL2-F3-R ELECTRIC PRIMER and FLASHLESS”. Both have dings and dents from handling and use. Dimensions for both: 22 15/16″ long. Base diameters approximately 4.5″. Each weigh approximately 6.8 lbs.
