Guns, Ammo, and Militaria Auction
Lot 2100:
1) M1885 US Cavalry saddle bags. This set of saddle bags has been modified from its original form. Instead of the single joining piece of leather, there are two custom pieces with a 1.5″ space separating them. Aside from the US oval embossed on the flaps, there are no visible makers marks/stampings on these bags. One of the bags has new rivets securing the bag to the straps. They are made from a black pebble grain leather (M1885), as opposed to a brown leather (M1904). The trio of straps all present, but some exhibit some cracks or leather loss. The leather is weathered, but overall is quite supple. It could use a good cleaning/conditioning. Measurements of the bags are approximately: 21”x15”3”.
2) Trio of Civil War/Indian War era US Cavalry rosettes for either horse or mule bridles. Brass disc with either brass or iron back. The two larger examples have a diameter of 1.75” and depth of .88”. The smaller example has a diameter of 1.5” and depth of .92”. Corrosion is heavy on the two that are iron backed, and were likely dug. Please see pictures.
