This 12-page World War II German photo album contains 139 individual photographs. The photos are a mix of originals and reproduced commercial photos. Some of the photos exhibit water damage or abrasion. All of the photos are between 2.5”x3.5” and 3” x4” in size. Some have a cut border, while many are unmodified. The photos in the first part of the album feature: German soldiers dining and celebrating Christmas; saluting as the cameraman goes by; group photos in the field; standing in front of train cars; sitting on top of destroyed tanks; training; on horse drawn carts; standing in formation; in the trenches; building fortifications; standing in front of destroyed bridges, etc. The photos in the center of the album (approximately 30 of them) are commercially bought and range in subject from Norwegian Stave Churches (Fantoft?), a statue of Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg, to picturesque vistas in the mountains, to the sea. The photos in the latter third of the album (several dozen) are of rallies at Nuremberg stadium; parades where Adolf Hitler, along with other high-ranking officials ride in cars through the streets. An image of Brandenburg Gate with crowds strolling about. Several photos of airplanes flying in formation overhead, along with two photos of the Airship Hindenburg floating above. The album itself is stable, with both covers affixed, albeit worn from handling. Nearly all the photos inside are affixed, with some loose photo corners. Holding this album in your hand, you can appreciate the nice mix of original photos from soldiers in the field, to photos of locales that were cherished, to original photos taken at large Nazi party rallies in iconic locations, with sought after subjects. This would be a great addition to any museum or historical archive. There are also a selection of seven modern enlargements ( 4”x6”) of photos found inside the album. Please see photos.
