Lot 2028:
Japanese sword, with lacquered wood scabbard and leather combat cover. Blade measures 26.5”. Long point tip is clean and sharp. Blade edge is clean and exhibits wear, but no nicks. Temper line is a regular zig-zag pattern. Overall sword length is 37.75”. The habaki (collar) is solid. Tsuba (guard) is bronze with four flowers on the corner of each side. The tang is marked with “Seki” character stamp on one side. There are signatures on both sides of the tang, and there is some marking in green at the base of the tang. The tsuka (handle) is traditional wood covered in shark skin and wrapped. The bronze hardware retains some of its finish. The pommel although affixed well, has movement. The peg that secures the handle to the tang needs to be replaced. Affixed to the sword is a tassel, red and blue, with minimal damage to one tassel. The scabbard is traditional lacquered wood, and is in a leather combat scabbard cover that has two snap closures to secure it. The leather is in fair to good condition overall, with scattered abrasions. There is a break in the leather where the hanger hardware is mounted. That has come loose from the scabbard. It measures: 28.75” long. The leather strap that would secure the sword into the scabbard is missing. Overall length of sword in scabbard is 39”. This is a beautiful, signed sword that should be a rewarding research project for its next owner. Please see photos.
