Description
Colt Giuseppe Garibaldi Commemorative 44BP Walker in excellent condition. Giuseppe Maria Garibaldi’s (1807-1882) popularity, skill at rousing the common man and his military exploits are all credited with making the unification of Italy possible. He was well known around the world as an exemplar of revolutionary nationalism and liberalism. He is considered one of Italy’s “father of the fatherland”. Colt reportedly assembled only 106 of these beautiful commemoratives honoring his achievements. This gun is as-new-in-the-box, it and it’s accessories remain in excellent condition. The metal surfaces of the barrel and cylinder retain about 99% original blue while the frame, hammer and loading lever assembly retain beautiful shades of blue, red, purple, and straw case-hardened colors. The brass grip frame rates about excellent with a few light spots of oxidized tarnish on the triggerguard. The smooth walnut factory grips also rate excellent. The cylinder has a gold etched bust of Giuseppe Garibaldi, one of Colonel Colt and a third of the two shaking hands. The left side of the barrel is gold etched with tight scroll surrounding Italy on the flat while “Garibaldi Special Edition” in cursive is framed with a gold border flanked by tight scroll. The right side of the barrel is etched with tight scroll surrounding the continent of South America (where he participated in the several wars in Brazil and Uruguay) on the flats and is marked with the date and location of his birth in Nice and death and final resting place in Caprera on the barrel surrounded with an etched border and flanked by tight scroll. All the appropriate parts are correctly numbered to the gun and it correctly times and locks up. The revolver is displayed in a beautiful wood presentation case with a glass cover. The glass on the cover is etched with a figure of Garibaldi on a rampant horse with serpentine banner next to it marked “Giuseppe Garibaldi (the sword) / Camillo Cavour (the brain) / Giuseppe Mazzini (the soul)”. Also included with the gun are the original shipping box, factory “F” series revolver box that is correctly end labeled and numbered to the gun C&R Eligible S/N:GCA1090
