Civil War Auction
Lot 1063:
Description
A nice rare “C.S.A.” sand cast waist belt plate. Believed to have been a product of the Atlanta Georgia Arsenal. It weighs 3oz and measures 2.76” wide x 1.89″ tall. The material is an alloyed copper & tin, evident in its deep red color. The letters are not properly centered, with them skewing to the left as one looks at it. The belt hooks on the back are not centered, shifting the hooks upward. To the best of our abilities, this particular example corresponds with nearly all the criteria of Fig 299 [p 306] in the Sydney C. Kerksis book “Plates and Buckles of the American Military 1795-1874” Gilgal Press, 1974. Documentation accompanying the plate, attributes it as coming from the personal collection of the very same author Sydney C. Kerksis. Please see pictures.
