Civil War Auction
Lot 91:
This sword has 19.125″ blade marked “UNITED STATES” over 1835. Other side is marked has Eagle over “N.P. AMES” over SPRINGFIELD”. Blade is bright with much spotty dark discoloring and has some nicks to blade up and down. Most of them are not very visible. Brass crossguard and handle show hard use and very pleasant patina. The scabbard is in good plus condition with many dings to tip cap. Leather shows some crazing but shows no weakness. Any cracks are just surface types. Scabbard throat has some old sticker residue. The scabbard has a 2 mm gap to crossguard when sheathed. This is a fine early example of this Model sword.
