This buckle type is famous for being worn during the war by General Robert E. Lee during the war. This buckle is marked with “9” over “6”. The front has very high detail with the lined sky and doted hills and grassy foreground. Chains show detail with high detail to crown. The letters ‘SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS” and “VIRGINIA” are sharp with no blurring. The hook has tampering thicker base. Back has raised dot at center. Top and bottom border edges show no file marks sides and the side edges of left outer and inner edge and right side edge show file marks. Weight is 83.1 grams and 86.68mm wide, 50.80mm tall and 3.53mm thick at center edge. There is a lot of information available on this type of buckle to determine variations between pre-war examples to Gaylord contract type.
