Description
This folk art canteen has a oil based painting of a dark haired woman and is dated 1863 and is marked a regiment of the MVM (Massachusetts Volunteer Militia). The rest of the painted inscription and pencil writing is very hard to read and understand. Below the woman is looks like “H M co B REGT M.V.M. 1863.” and on the back in pencil it reads ‘Henry” but there are at least 5-8 more words that are very hard to read and see. Condition shows old dents,dings and rust to canteen with some paint loss to image. It is no actively flaking but should be handled with care. There is research possibilities with this canteen.
