Description
This lot of 4 cast iron pieces of the CSS (Nashville) Rattlesnake were retrieved by a group of local Georgia teens back in the late 1970s. In 1985, the 3 amateur archeologists published a book about their exploits and recovery of the ship they found when they were kids. Included is 3 pieces of the armored deck that had a raised star design that worked to protect the boiler and the stars created a bit of a non-slip deck. The forth piece is a 2″ ring that looks to be a boiler pipe ring. Also included are three pages from the 3 Civil War archaeologists titled book “Tangled Machinery and Charred Relics by Franklin Chance, Paul Chance and David Topper published in 1985. The picture show a larger piece on the star armored plate being pulling from the river. There are copies of this book available online.
