Civil War Auction
Lot 57:
This is a double signed etching portrait of Union General and Medal of Honor recipient Major General Oliver Howard (1830-1809). This etching portrait is in 10.25″ x 14.125″ glass frame and is marked below image ” Neill N.Y.””. The etching is signed which appears to be from the Civil War era and below is matted clipped signature. Howard received his MOH in 1893 for his actions at the battle of Fair Oaks in 1862. This framing was well done. There are other autographs from this same source. There is some age yellowing under the glass and may be time to refresh the mounting because of specks of dust inside frame, yet everything looks stable in terms of preservation. Frame shows some minor wear. Very nice piece of Medal of Honor and Civil War history.
