Civil War Auction
Lot 248:
Description
This is a very well made, artificially aged and contemporary Union Forage cap. The chinstrap looks fragile and the visor looks attic heat damaged. The wool body looks worn with seams starting to come apart. The K and crossed swords show age and micro scratches. The US Army depot size tag shows staining and a tear. The chinstrap buttons may be the only period part of this very fake cap. This was made to separate collectors from their money and it is very convincing. Good for studying what is wrong and what should be right about authentic forage caps and kepis.
