Civil War Auction
Lot 22:
This is an incredible matching drummer boy tail coat and kepi grouping that is from the ex-Kenneth J. Budny collection. It is prominently displayed on the cover of Budny’s 2005 Civil War Headgear book and is well described and takes center stage examination on pages 42-45 . We will have full page photos of the multi-page layout and text to serve as description. Since it left Budny’s collection. The jacket’s front buttons appear to be all period matching. It also appears to be in the same overall condition today as in 2005. It may be a bit dusty. The green wool has almost a velvet feel. There are some moth tracks and sporadic old period repairs and one 1″ green patch repair on left arm bend of the elbow and series of small patch repairs on left middle back. The right sleeve has a bit more fading to the green fabric. The kepi has some fading in color and some of the red piping is frayed. Side buttons match and leather sweatband and hard visor are still tightly in place. There is some expert opinion that the kepi has French characteristics. There is 2″ slit to kepi lining. Kepi shows some wear and hair oils on sweatband. We will grade both the kepi and jacket in very good condition. We welcome additional photo requests. This jacket and kepi will include a used copy of Budny’s book. This is a chance to get one of the premier published Civil War grouping ever offered.
