Civil War Auction
Lot 206:
Description
This sword with belt hangers is dated and marked Ames on blade ricasso with strange stamped dots. The dots may be a storage release from military use. Both sides have proofs and marks. The overall length is 42.25″ and 34.75″ blade. Blade is very bright and has series of nicks at 17″ out the further. Tips is good. The hangers are is amazingly good and servable condition. They show wear and green verdigris built up but they are ready for a torso or mannequin display. So many are fragile but not these hangers. The blade is bright with some nicks to middle of blade edge. The crossguard and hilt shows age and wear with a red hue to brass fittings. The leather and wire wrapped handle shows much wear and the wire very loose but still wrapped around. Scabbard has no dents or dings but looks like it is down to bare steel and was chromed a long time ago in our opinion. This is a very nice original set of hangers and sword.
