This 1/6 plate tintype is so crisp and clear, it looks like a daguerreotype. It is in 3.75″ x 3.25″ hinged Littlefield & Parsons thermoplastic case with cupid and stag motif. It is a very sharp image of two ID’d Union NCO’s. On the inside back of the case behind the image written in pencil is, Sargt John Clements Corp. Clark Hull Co A 159th Reg OVI (Ohio Volunteer Infantry) May 2nd 1864. An included research paper on Clark Hull shows that he enlisted on May 2nd 1864 so this image was taken on the day he enlisted. It is so finely done that you can see the clean finger nails of the Sergeant. Case is in very good condition with good corners and hinges. and image has some crazing along area from 9:00 to 11:00 edge and is mostly visible if you angle the image at an angle and not straight on. This is very pleasing and their faces seem like they came out of a time machine.
