Description

This commission document is dated April 4th 1863 and is signed by President Abraham Lincoln and Sec. of War Edwin Stanton. It is a partial printed document on vellum and is for the appointment of Thomas H. Ruger of Wisconsin to Brigadier General of Volunteers on November 29th 1862. It has embossed blue seal affixed upper left and April 4th 1863 filing date on upper left corner. The vellum has fold creases but is very smooth and crisp. It is matted and framed 17×21″. Signatures are strong and clear. This came from the Ruger family estate in 2014. The frame is good condition but it is our opinion it is time for the most modern acid free framing with UV protective glass. This is a rare chance to have an original Lincoln autograph on not just an officer but a General.
