Description
This sword is the very sought after pre 1854 production M1840 saber with the recessed crossguard. The 31.75″ blade is marked on the ricasso is marked “N.P. AMES” over “CABOTVILLE” over “1846”. The other side is marked “U.S.” over “N.W.P.”. The blade is very bright and smooth to touch and has some dark patches of discoloration but the blade has no nicks or chips. It is the brightest blade we have quite possibility ever seen from this period. Show some of old cleaning abrasions. The blade has no nicks or dings and tip is good. The handle and crossguard are tight and show much age and wear. The leather and wire wrapped handle is tight and also show age and hard wear. The scabbard is in good condition with no dings or dents and has a nice patina over bare steel. This early sword variation has so many good attributes plus the blade is so bright you can see your reflection in it. and displays very well.
