Civil War Auction
Lot 120:
This smooth body canteen is not marked on the spout and has a brown-butternut colored wool denim like fabric cover. There is evidence of Union and CSA use of such canteens. The cork stopper is present and cork is mostly intact and very dry. The stopper ring and chain show much rust and the cover shows the most intense colors, staining and wear. The are inked initials on one side center which appear to be “H.S.” This is one of those types of artifacts that have that “been there” kind of look which collectors get excited about.
