Description
This is an excellent example of the 12 button M1858 artillery shell jacket and is marked in right armpit with illegible manufacturer’s ink stamp. It the lining is brown and white wool worsted cloth. All of the buttons appear to match. The buttons are plain thin neck eagle general service pattern. The condition is very good plus with the red worsted piping bright colors. Some of the sewn seams have period repairs and some seams have loosened stitches. The 12 button holes show normal wear. The blue wool body have just a few random holes but they seem not to be from mothing and wool body is in excellent condition. Lining has left interior pocket sewn in. Interior shows heavy staining in lower areas and some separation from wool body. This is a classic shell jacket in very good plus condition.
