Lot 2230:
Description
A truly one of a kind spectacular artifact from the Blatz Brewing Co. in Milwaukee Wisconsin. It is the heavy cast bronze plaque that was inset in the floor at the entrance of the Valintin Blatz Brewing Co. (1851-1959) main offices at 1120 N. Broadway in Milwaukee. The Richardson Romanesque Revival style building designed by noted architect H. Paul Schnetzky was built in 1890. Blatz went out of business in 1959. The brewery was converted to condominiums with the office building being taken over by the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The bronze plaque measures 24″ in diameter and is embossed with the Blatz logo and 1851. It shows evidence of heavy foot traffic. It was removed after the brewery went out of business in 1959.
